1. negative regulation of neuron death in response to H2O2

PMID:15983381 demonstrates that DJ-1 (Q99497, PARK7) protects against oxidative stress-induced neuron cell death.

Statement from paper: wild-type DJ-1 sequesters Daxx in the nucleus, prevents it from gaining access to the cytoplasm, from binding to and activating its effector kinase apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1, and therefore, from triggering the ensuing death pathway

Folded/unfolded Gene Name (col 2) GO ID (col 5) Reference (col 6) Evidence (col 7) Annotation Extension (col 16) Parent terms of new folded GO term
Unfolded - NOT created as no suitable relationship available Q99497 PARK7 (DJ-1) GO:1901215 negative regulation of neuron death PMID:15983381 IDA No suitable relationship available (GO:0070301 cellular response to hydrogen peroxide)
Folded - created using a NEW GO term rather than the annotation extension field Q99497 PARK7 (DJ-1) New GO term created Negative regulation of neuron death in cellular response to hydrogen peroxide PMID:15983381 IDA is_a negative regulation of neuron death AND is_a cellular response to hydrogen peroxide
Unfolded annotation NOT appropriate Q99497 PARK7 (DJ-1) GO:1901215 negative regulation of neuron death PMID:15983381 IDA part_of (GO:0070301 cellular response to hydrogen peroxide)
Folded creates part_of instead of is_a parent relationships Q99497 PARK7 (DJ-1) New GO term created negative regulation of neuron death INVOLVED_IN cellular response to hydrogen peroxide PMID:15983381 IDA is_a negative regulation of neuron death AND part_of cellular response to hydrogen peroxide

The curator considered applying the relationship part_of but this would have led to cellular response to hydrogen peroxide having a part_of relationship to the new annotation extension GO term, when what was required was an is_a relationship.
