January2011 Annotation Advocacy Report
Annotation call
This month the annotation call was held on January 10th to discuss three recent proposals from the signaling working group (SWG), presented by Rebecca Foulger.
The minutes from the call are here
Highlights include;
- All signaling pathway terms to move back under 'signal transduction'
- Signaling pathways start with ligand-receptor binding, and end with regulation of a downstream process
- All signal transmission terms are to be obsoleted, as they are ambiguous and too broad to be useful
- Definitions of transmembrane receptor terms are to be improved
Time of annotation call
The annotation call will now alternate with the Reference Genomes call.
The annotation call will be held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 11am Eastern US time (4pm UK). The Reference Genomes call will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 11am Eastern US time (4pm UK).
Feedback to external groups
UniProtKB-GOA is now providing InterPro and Reactome with details of annotations that have been inferred from their primary annotations. InterPro hopes to use this information to map the missing terms to InterPro domains, etc.
UniProtKB-GOA is also providing InterPro and Reactome with the annotations from these groups that have failed the taxon constraint sanity checks.
Annotation of gastrin genes
UniProtKB-GOA has incorporated annotations to gastrin proteins from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). These will be released in February's GOA release.
