ASBMB Annual Meeting

Jodi Hirschman, Saccharomyces Genome Database
April 28 - May 2, 2007
Washington, DC

  1. This was a large, very diverse meeting.
  2. A talk and a poster was presented, in the Systems Biology section, that focused on how SGD incorporates GO into its pages and how the GO tools at SGD allows users to analyze large datasets, particularly with regard to comparative genomics studies.
  3. A couple of the speakers mentioned using GO in their work, particularly Elizabeth Winzeler, who is analyzing the genome of Plasmodium.
  4. The questions following the talk had to do with how we ensure that our annotations are accurate and how do we handle conflicting data.

Community Annotation Wiki for Immunology

Alex D. Diehl
MGI

The Gene Ontology Consortium's Community Annotation Wiki for Immunology was launched in May (http://wiki.geneontology.org/index.php/Immunology). The wiki provides 1326 gene pages for genes of immunological interest with links to MOD and Entrez gene pages and existing GO annotation and which may reviewed and edited by users of the wiki to provide information about a gene's biology which is currently unannotated with the GO. The information provided will then be reviewed by professional GO annotators and converted to correctly formatted GO annotation. In this way, the community of immunologists will ensure that we are annotating all important aspects of a gene's biology and will drive the annotation of immunologically-relevant genes which have been thus far overlooked by annotators. The focus in on mammalian species.

FlowCharts

We made progress on putting together the top level flow chart. This flow chart aims to direct the user to the appropriate actions involved towards making GO annotations. The current version (Version 3) of the Top Level flowchart is available at:
