Report from Fiona McCarthy from ISAFG Conference

(farm animal biologists in Europe).

Just a quick note to let you know how things went at the ISAFG Conference. I think you saw my abstract so you already know that we were focusing on how to get GO annotations and how to use them to model data.

I think the demo went well and there seemed a high level of interest amongst this community - of course this audience has seen GO demos in the past and I think that they are very keen to use the GO and understand it better. At the moment its hard for me to tell what things they seemed most interested in but we are expecting to get some feedback about the demo in the next 3 weeks or so. (Will keep you posted.)

One other thing to keep in mind with this group is that there seems to be a groundswell towards Solexa sequencing and proteomics (away from arrays) so it might be good to keep in mind that over the next few years the users' needs may be changing. They will still need GO obviously, just that the tools they are using to analyse their data may need to change slightly.

We have a screenshot of the final Plant Physiology annotation submission tool:

Sol Genomics Network

Their first annotation file has been committed and they are in communication with Mike Cherry to get write access so they can commit their own files.
