Talk:Letter to Editors

It would be very useful, especially for those who are linking database information with text, that systematic identifiers such as AGI numbers were used when available (in addition to actual id and namespace of the source database). It is not clear that this is covered by the current wording of the letter and does not appear in the example web interface, although it does appear as "locus name" on the ASPB page. use of systematic IDs beyond database IDs is somewhat organism specific so one size doesn't fit all in this regard. Inclusion of the source of the gene/protein ID/accession/locus/etc is essential, and is not obviously provided for on the ASPB input page. As an aside, I find that "locus" is used in widely varying ways; often it is taken to mean the gene symbol (rpoD), but could be thought to indicate the "Genbank" locus, or other term (not the AGI ID as on the ASPB site). This makes locus a somewhat loaded (and confusing) term.Gribskov 15:20, 8 September 2008 (PDT)
