Noctua Common Annotation Tool

  • Noctua: We have progressed our next-generation collaborative web-based GO common annotation environment ‘Noctua’ to beta release and are rolling it out for use in curation.
  • We transitioned the back-end storage to GitHub, allowing full tracking and rollback.
  • We have implemented numerous features on the front-end, meeting a series of milestones. These include full editing of evidence using the evidence ontology, and the ability to pull in annotations from AmiGO.

Textpresso Central Integration into Common Annotation Framework

  • Textpresso Central is the newly developed version of the Textpresso text mining system that allows curators to search the full text of literature and associate annotations with specific statements in that text using customized curation forms.
  • During the past year, we have brought all curation-related features of the platform from a preliminary state into production mode which included developing a GO curation form for the Textpresso Central component of the Common Annotation Framework.
  • We have tested integration of the GO curation form with the Protein2GO curation tool hosted at the EBI by the UniProt-GOA group, and are able to submit annotations to Protein2GO via web services.
  • We are currently working with the Berkeley group to establish a protocol for sending GO annotations to the Noctua curation tool.
