From Harold
1. download and install Openoffice (free; http://www.openoffice.org)
2. download and install extension:Sun Wiki Publisher 1.1 (free, http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/wikipublisher) in Openoffice (extension manager)
Open word doc in OpenOffice (will take doc or docx files) File/Export, then chose "MediaWiki" format.
You will get a text file.
Cut/paste the contents of that file into the wiki window (GO, wherever). Some cleanup needed depending on original document structure.
Cannot find anything similar for Word; there was an old visual basic macro floating around, but seems only compatible with Windows version prior to 2007. Have not tried.
