Curators at Mouse Genome Informatics (MGI) at The Jackson Laboratory have completed a comprehensive annotation of mammalian genes involved in the regulation of blood pressure.  By developing the ontology during active annotation, the GO has gained 66 new terms addressing blood pressure regulation, and now represents this area of biology far more comprehensively than before.  The annotation efforts ultimately yielded 49 new annotations for 23 mouse genes directly involved in the process of blood pressure regulation, bringing the total for those genes to 264 GO annotations.

3. Cellular Component to be is_a Complete
The Cellular Component ontology will soon be "is_a complete", meaning that each term in the hierarchy will have at least one is_a relationship path to the top node.  This transition will be implemented no sooner than May 29, 2006.

1. Welcome to the First Issue of the GO Newsletter

This is the first issue of the Gene Ontology newsletter, which highlights significant improvements and changes to the ontologies, annotations, and software that are developed by members of the GO Consortium. This newsletter will be sent to those subscribed to the GO Friends Mailing List on a quarterly basis.

2. Representing Blood Pressure Regulation in the GO

4. AmiGO Tutorial

AmiGO is a web application that allows browsing and visualization of the ontologies and annotations from multiple species at the same time. Find answers to some basic questions regarding the use of AmiGO in this quick tutorial.

5. Converting to OBO Format version 1.2

The Gene Ontology Consortium is converting its gene_ontology.obo file to version 1.2. This change will be implemented no sooner than June 15, 2006.

6. Upcoming Meetings

GO Neurobiology Ontology Workshop: June 14-16, 2006, Bar Harbor, ME
GO Annotation Camp: July 12-14, 2006, Stanford University, Stanford, CA
GO Users Meeting: September 10, 2006, University Tower Hotel, Seatte, WA (in conjunction with MGED 9)
