PROBLEM

This issue concerns the terms:

 protein N-terminus binding ; GO:0047485
 protein C-terminus binding ; GO:0008022

They are defined as binding to the N- or C-terminal residue of a protein, but have been used in annotation to describe binding to a domain that is in the N-terminal or C-terminal region of a protein, and this is not information that we want to capture in GO.

PROPOSAL

  • 1. Obsolete GO:0047485 and GO:0008022.
  • 2. Create new terms for protein N-terminus binding, and protein C-terminus binding.

This means that existing annotations will need to be looked at, and can be transferred to the new terms ONLY if applicable.
