GO TERMS

stress-activated protein kinase signaling cascade ; GO:0031098
--[isa]stress-activated MAPK cascade ; GO:0051403
----[isa]JNK cascade ; GO:0007254
----[isa]p38MAPK cascade ; GO:0038066
stress-activated protein kinase signaling cascade ; GO:0031098
A series of molecular signals in which a stress-activated protein kinase (SAPK) cascade relays one or more of the signals.
Exact synonym: SAPK signaling pathway

QUESTIONS

  • What is the difference between 'stress-activated protein kinase signaling cascade ; GO:0031098' and 'stress-activated MAPK cascade ; GO:0051403'?
  • Is SAPK an outdated name? Some people refer to SAPK and JNK synonymously, others use SAPK as a grouping for JNK and p38 types of MAPK. Although these two cascades respond primarily to stress, they can act on other stimuli.

TO_DO

  • I am in favour of obsoleting 'stress-activated protein kinase signaling cascade ; GO:0031098' and 'stress-activated MAPK cascade ; GO:0051403'. That way, annotations could be looked at and transferred to the JNK term, where possible.
