Val has been requesting alot of x transmembrane transport terms for her GOslim mappings. We suspect that lots of the current 'x transport' terms refer to transport across a membrane but the TM parentage is currently missing. To avoid redundancy (and adding in x transmembrane transport terms for each) can any of the following be given the direct parent 'transmembrane transport' ?

The definition of transport ; GO:0006810 is: The directed movement of substances (such as macromolecules, small molecules, ions) into, out of, within or between cells, or within a multicellular organism by means of some external agent such as a transporter or pore.

Note from Pascale: According to the QuickGO change log, this was never the definition for 'transmembrane transport. The first definition was 'The process in which a solute is transported from one side of a membrane to the other.', changed to 'The process in which a solute is transported across a lipid bilayer, from one side of a membrane to the other' in 2015. I reverted it back in Oct 2017.

The definition of transmembrane transport ; GO:0055085 is: The process whereby a solute is transported from one side of a membrane to the other. This process includes the actual movement of the solute, and any regulation and preparatory steps, such as reduction of the solute.
