Agenda

1) Plan to finish the annotation SOP (top priority)
http://gocwiki.geneontology.org/index.php/Beginning_Annotation_SOP

2) rewrite the following to incorporate the things we have learned over the past year:

i) metrics for our group.
ii) to do list
iii) rationale for prioritising.

Minutes: February 1st, 2007 (Pascale)

Present: - Evelyn Camon - Jennifer Clark - Harold Drabkin - Pascale Gaudet

[ACTION ITEM]: Make up a rotation list for chairing and taking minutes at these meetings [Jennifer]

1) Plan to finish the annotation SOP (top priority):

Harold: it looks very different; maybe we can split it into several pages
Ev: we never integrated all the [annotation] techniques we use; we should
Pascale: a lot of it is on the GO website (annotation documentation)
Harold: maybe what is on the GO pages is too complicated/hard to find?
Ev: we have at EBI some flyers that could be used as a starting point to explain GO annotation

[ACTION ITEM]: Ask Emily Dimmer if she will join and become a bridge between evidence code group and outreach so we can bring two sets of documentation in line.

[ACTION ITEM]: Produce flowcharts for different methods of annotation (due at next call)

- Harold: Importing GOA data MGI
- Jen: Manual annotation
- Pascale: ISS
- Evelyn: Automated annotations at GOA
[The plan is just that we will work out the bare bones of the flow charts and come back to the next meeting to discuss how we got on. We will do this in text and Jen has made space on the wiki for each flow chart: http://gocwiki.geneontology.org/index.php/Flowcharts)

see if we can integrate the current GO annotation documentation by adding links? http://www.geneontology.org/GO.annotation.shtml?all

2 i) Metrics for the Annotation outreach group:

- # new contributing groups per year
- # new annotation trips/workhops
- length of training period?
- Evelyn: add number of anotations?
- Pascale: capture # groups we contact//or contact us
- Harold: look at the association file to see which group contribute data

[ACTION ITEM]: Think of more some other metrics. (all)

2 ii) To do list

The to do list has been fine tuned by the PIs. They asked us to focus most on the SOP.

These are the other things that Jen has thought of: - retrofitting ontology and database to keep track of groups contacted (Jen)
- asked AmiGO to add feature 'anotate this gene' (Pascale: I think this will be in the next AmiGO release)
- get IEAs into AmiGO
- contact journal editors? to specify minimal guidelines for publication of GO data // Coordinate with User Advocacy group [WHO is doing this?]
Ev: do you have a standard contact letter for people you contact?
Jenn: yes

[ACTION ITEM] Jen will put standard letter on wiki.

[ACTION ITEM] Any other to do items on outreach (all)

2 iii) Rationale for prioritising

The PIs asked us to give them information on how we decide which things are the highest priority in our work. This is things within the working group and also between working groups. e.g. DO we consider outreaching to groups more important than doing our own annotation or doing a sourceforge item? What is the most important of our outreach activities? Going to visit departments or writing SOP?

Jen gave some examples:

I think for me that things have this order of importance:

1) Content meetings 2) Outreach visits to departments 3) answering mail help queries from users 4) editing content and doing content conference calls 5) working on sourceforge items 6) filling in outreach database and writing SOPs

[ACTION ITEM]: each will write what we consider the most important priorities before next phone call
