Guidelines for creating relationships between terms

  1. To create asserted relationships in GO, use the Subclass of field.
    • Subclasses: For asserted subclass relations, click on the '+' next to the Subclass of and a new widow with a class expression editor will appear. If the term already has a logical definition, run the reasoner to see the inferred parents. Try to modify the logical definition to make it necessary and sufficient so that the desired classification is inferred. If necessary, manually asserted subclasses can be added to terms. For subclasses, enter the term name of the parent into the window and click ok. As is required elsewhere, terms with more than one word need to be enclosed in single quotes and as you type, you can use tab complete to find terms. The new parent should now be listed in the Subclass of field.
