Acts upstream of
The acts upstream of gene product to GO term relation is used when the mechanism relating a gene product's activity to a Biological Process is known and the activity occurs before the Biological Process but is neither an integral part of the process, nor an integral part of a process that regulates it. Curators should always strive to use one of the more specific child relations that capture the directionality of the effect, either positive or negative.
Examples of Usage
- Wherever possible, curators should choose one of the positive or negative effect child terms.
- If examples arise where one of the child terms cannot be used, we will include them.
