Bar chart summaries can be reached by clicking the bar chart icon to the right of selected terms in the main treeview. The bar chart will display a summary of gene products associated to the selected term and all of its descendants who have been selected. The number of selected products is limited to the same constraints as in other pages when filters are used.

The header displays the name of the selected term.

Next is a bar chart that shows the relative numbers of gene products that have been associated to that term and all of its selected descendants.

The last item in the page is a table summarizing these results. The first column displays the names of the selected term and all of its selected descendants. The first row is titled "ALL " followed by the selected term name. This is the total number of gene products associated to the selected term and any of its descendants, selected or otherwise. The second column shows the number of gene products associated to the term in that row. The last column shows this number as a percentage of the number in the first row (the total number of gene products associated to the selected term and any of its descendants, selected or otherwise).

Generating a Bar Chart

If a GO term is fully expanded (i.e. all its children GO terms are displayed), a bar chart icon will appear at the end of the line. Clicking on this icon will generate a bar chart showing the distribution of genes and gene products associated with that GO term and its children.

Understanding Bar Charts

The bar chart shows the distribution of all gene products associated for that GO term and its child GO terms. The bar chart is drawn on the top half of the page with the total number of gene products annotated to each GO each listed in a table below. The GO term name is a hyperlink that directs you to the term details page for that GO term.

Please note that the total number of genes and the percentages listed may not equal 100% because a gene product may be annotated to multiple children GO terms.
