Moving Noctua production server to AWS

  • Needed to implement Jim's changes to flag model types ("standard" versus "GO-CAM")
   pros
   - https
   - 'standard' surface for development (collapsing prod and dev)
   - 'newer' surface for development (less of this java business)
   - easier participation and dev (negative here too)
   - (possibly) easier disaster recovery
   - avoid lbl site outages
   - training, spreading the knowledge
   cons
   - (possible) cost
   - slower to do any single action (devops dependency chain)
   - (may) make migrations a bit more fiddly; new SOPs
   - training takes time

Noctua Standard Annotation Form

  • Tremayne has redesigned the form and it has much more of the functionality curators want
  • Proposal: have a small focus-group that consists of groups currently using Noctua form test and give feedback
    • Tuesday, August 30th annotation time call slot

    • Is this covered by the Noctua Standard Annotation Form project?
    • We've covered this for the standard annotation form, but my understanding is that the VPE is using a different code base, so it may not be covered there. I'll check with Tremayne. (Kimberly)

Cloudflare

  • Announcement: we will switch to Cloudflare in front of production CloudFront distributions https://github.com/geneontology/operations/issues/70
  • This is to reduce problems with bots
  • Notifying the group because this will cause an outage of Downloads when we do the switch (about 30 minutes for each snapshot, release & current)
